It's an incredible and much-needed book on past and present queer art. The amazon editorial reviews are on the nose. Yes, it's that good. This can be described as a true "survey" and not a measly selection of 20-30 artists. Starts with two critical essays by Richard Meyer and Catherine Lord and then the art is split into seven different sections beginning in 1885 all the way up to the present. Additional critical text and documents are found in the last part of the book, which mirrors the chronological sequence of the previous seven sections, and ends with artist biographies. If you're not excited already, you should be. Because the book is also gorgeous. Great design, beautiful reproductions. Do yourself a favor and also check out the magnificent work of Richard Meyer. Although more focused, his book Outlaw Representation has been a staple in my library and in my research.
This is by far the most thorough overview of queer art-making practice in the past century. A richly visual and beautifully designed coffee table book, with also the added bonus that it's a BRILLIANT read. I took this big book to bed and read it cover to cover! A must have for anyone interested in thought provoking texts & images on contemporary art/artists.

A very comprehensive book both pictorially and information wise.
I have never come across a book that attempts to be so thorough in terms of scholarly writing while also contain a great deal of visual content. This book would be both at home on a coffee table as it would in a collection of art theory texts. Excellent work.
It is the best overview till now. The texts are a very important addition to the visual material. And, very well designed too. Is a must for every gay man and woman.
