Review

Customer Review for Watson-Guptill Sketchbooks:"I have been an artist, who keeps a sketchbook, for over 20 years. This is without a doubt the BEST sketchbook you can buy. I have found that this sketchbook has beautiful paper, not too toothy or textured, but the cover and binding are the really exquisite part. This sketchbook goes everywhere with me and goes into and out of my backpack every day. I have never had another brand stand up to that kind of abuse and use. This sketchbook looks, after a year, like it did the day I bought it."

Sturdy and decent sketchbook. I use alcohol-based markers and it does sometimes leak to the other page (the next page, not the back of the page) so be sure to put a piece of paper in between the pages if you are using alcohol-based markers. I am overall pretty satisfied with this sketchbook. Good price, decent quality. The bleeding to the other page issue is my only complaint but can easily be solved using another piece of paper.

I have been an Artist who keeps a sketchbook for over 20 years. I have tried every brand, quite literally. This is without a doubt the BEST sketchbook you can buy. I have found that this sketchbook has beautiful paper, not too toothy or textured, but the cover and binding are the really exquisite part. I don't know how quickly you fill a sketchbook, I take about a year to fill one. When I was young I would fill a sketchbook very quickly, perhaps a couple months, but now I sometimes run long, even going over a full year. This sketchbook goes everywhere with me and goes into and out of my backpack every day. I have never had another brand stand up to that kind of abuse and use. But this sketchbook looks after a year, like it did the day I bought it. I have never found another brand who's binding can hold up under these circumstances. Usually the cover shreds and the body of pages will separate and fall out of the cover. Better than Canson and far cheaper than Moleskine and still better.

Nice smooth paper. For the price, it is a great sketch book. I have only used it for pencil and light pen (Uni-Ball Vision Elite). But I am filling in areas with ink, and there is not much bleed through to back side of paper (read below for explanation. ) If you're using heavy amounts of ink, then use a backing sheet for sure. I just use a backing sheet all the time, it never hurts, and then you have an extra place to write or doodle something not intended for that sketch book.It is a sKetCH book; I just figure on the back of each page being pretty much useless, anyway, except for maybe notes in pencil or doodles in the margins. In my opinion, saving the following sheet is what matters, and I am impressed by how smooth this paper is, and how well it prevents bleed through (within reason) to the following sheet. When they say 176 pages, figure that means 88 pages, nicely bound, and you won't be disappointed.Ink users be advised: the GOOD is that you get nice crisp, clean lines because the paper is so smooth, the BAD is that it can take a while for the ink to dry because is does not soak into the paper very much. Just be careful not to accidentally smudge what you have just drawn. I still give the sketch book 5 stars, because I would rather have the clean lines.

This is a nice sketchbook. I purchased it used from the Amazon Warehouse and the only problem I saw with it was that it had a couple of scratches on the cover. I use it for pastels, graphite, and charcoal. I recently also did a picture in pen and ink and the paper help the ink just fine; there was no bleed through.

The book was okay. It's not bad for simple pencil sketches but it doesn't handle other media too well. The texture was too smooth for my oil pastels, and the paper was too weak and thin for watercolors, although it did pretty decently when I used acrylic paint on the pages.

Item arrived damaged (both front + back hardcover corners were crushed), but I didn't have time to return it before needing a new journal. Nice paper (I use pencil + pen), and I like that the pages stay relatively flat while the book is open.

I originally bought this sketchbook a few years ago, and when it came time to buy a new sketchbook recently, I dug through my old purchases in order to make sure I bought the same one. This sketchbook is the perfect size for me, and the paper is not too thick and not too thin and holds up well. Best of all, the book opens flat, and the price is right. I'll definitely re-buy this sketchbook when I'm due for a new one!

I bought this as a gift for a friend, she loves to draw. I also bought a 18 piece pencil set separately on here. It's a very nice sketch book especially for the price. The pages are well put together so no accidental tears and thick enough to where you could use markers and it not bleed through. I love it myself and might even buy me one. It's nice to hold in your hands , and it feels far more expensive then it was. I use to buy multiple sketch pads and use them up quickly, I would tear my drawings out And regret it afterwards , but this sketchbook makes it perfect for storing your drawings like a journal . You can really do a lot with this sketchbook.
