Review
We've known the McClary family since the 1980s and can tell you that the patch over Clebe's eye is legendary. While he could be mistaken for a pirate on the outside, the cou-rageous spirit within marks a godly hero. Courage is something that works its way from the inside out, and Tara has captured the endearing love of her dad who served our coun-try with great honor and her mom who exemplifies the meaning of Proverbs 31:28. Is Your Dad a Pirate? will warm the hearts of children and parents from the inside out. --Franklin and Jane GrahamThe need to support our wounded warriors is clear. We must never forget our military de-fenders or lose sight of the fact that America's heroes come home to raise our future leaders. Is Your Dad a Pirate? opens a window of insight into the family life of one Marine warrior, Lt. Clebe McClary, that can remind every reader just what a gift it is to be an American. --Gary Sinise, Founder of the Gary Sinise Foundation and the actor portraying Lieutenant Dan in the movie, Forrest GumpMy first introduction to the McClary family came when I was sharing an audio tape with my two sons. In it Clebe McClary detailed his wartime experience and the injuries incurred during his service in Viet Nam. His story made a huge impression on me and my boys. Later, I had the opportunity to meet Clebe when he gave his testimony. Now my wife and I attend the same church as Tara and her family. ... In Is Your Dad a Pirate? Tara has de-tailed the lives of her parents both heroes in her life, and she shares a great message for America. This book highlights her dad's heroic sacrifice in defending our country and her mom s continued dedication to him over the years. It s a testimony to the many wounded veterans and their families who have all made great sacrifices so that we can enjoy a safe and happy life in America. --Joe Gibbs/Owner, Joe Gibbs Racing

This book is the perfect book to teach children the sacrifice that so many of us take for granted in this wonderful country! How loosely we can use the word freedom. Nothing in this world is free. It is paid for in so many ways by so many incredible men and women. So many lives given, injuries, and sacrifice so that we can enjoy the pleasures and freedoms of this country! This book is a wonderful reminder to be thankful for what you have in this country because the price was very high and to tread carefully in the way you honor these veterans by expressing your freedoms! The pictures are beautiful, the story is truly touching, the beauty of commitment and love it shows, and the importance of family and support is very special!I feel so thankful to have come across an interview with Tara (the author) about this book. I instantly found it on amazon and ordered it for our children. Also being a military family I was so encouraged by the love and support it showed from her mother!Every home in America should have this book on their children’s shelves! I think it’s incredibly important to educate our children on why they are so blessed to live in America.I look forward to passing this book on for generations so we can always be thankful and remember those like Mr. McClary and those who never made it back home.I will never ever take this freedom for granted! I am so thankful to be an American and so thankful for all our American hero’s and those holding down the fort back home!My 4 year old daughter just loves it and keeps talking about the man in the picture with his family who looks like a pirate and how he’s a hero! It opened up the dialogue for us to talk about veterans and their sacrifice and why we love the USA!Did I mention to grab a tissue!!!????!!! The ending just got me!So excited to read Clebe and Deanna’s books!
This a must for every family or friend with wounded veteran. We need to honor caretakers and spouses who stick to their wedding vows and kids who have also have to adapt to a new normal. Simple Book: Profound message.
Tara has a gift for sharing her love and passion in a way that touches your heart! What a wonderful way to teach children the cost of freedom. A wonderful reminder to all of us to remember the families of all soldiers. Thank God for these hero's and Tara for sharing her story. My daughter and I love this book I recommend everyone share this book with the kids in your family along with all Tara's books!
This is a well written, delightfully illustrated children's book that teaches children and adults about sacrifice, love and service. It is their first choice when my grandchildren pick out books for me to read to them when they are visiting.
Good values are to be celebrated.
Love this book
This book is so great! What a beautiful story of love and commitment. Tara McClary Reeves is a great communicator! Thank you for this example and this encouragement!
Oh My, Oh My!!! First let me say that Author Tara McClary Reeves in my opinion is one outstanding author. This is an amazing story of a little girl and her feelings about her dad. And the perspective of this book is one that not only helps her but others around her. The synopsis gives a great description, so I am not going to give one of my own. Instead, I am going to recommend it to all the military families, as well as to all the schools. It might seem a little off to mention it for schools, but think of how many of our kids have parents or other family members that serve? And teachers some times have to care for them. They sometimes see more than the family might see due to them not realizing how to talk or show their feelings so it can show in their behavior. This story gives us some ideas not only for the little girl and her father, but also for her mom, and how things affected her as well.So for the reasons above I will be giving this book a Breath of Life rating of: Five Clock Rating!!!!Disclosure: I did receive the above book in exchange for my honest opinion and orreview. But the Opinions are my own and yours may differ.
