The author takes a beginner like me, from the basics of burning to being able to do some of the more difficult types of burning such as on paper and material. She covers the basics very well and provided my with information I needed to make better use of my variable heat burner.
Love this artist, I have purchased some of her books over 15 years ago, she teaches techniques in a simpler manner, this I can understand, I appreciate her way of showing how, something's I struggle to read. So I say BRAVO to her! Peace Beth
My daughter absolutely loves this, it has the needed information to get building her skills, along with many ideas on how to create wonderful wood burning pieces of art. Great book!
I am a pyrography artist who writes blogs and maintains a website devoted to pyrography (pyrography made easy). Fox Chapel Publishing sent me this to review, but I do not receive any compensation from the sale of the book.Lora Irish wrote a book that covers all of the basics of pyrography. This includes the two different styles of burners (fixed and variable heat), and different mediums to burn on like wood, leather, and gourds. With each item, including several varieties of wood, she provides tips to get better burn results and, if needed, guidelines to ensure safe burning.The bulk of the book is filled with lessons explaining how to create her distinctive style of burning. She does this via numerous projects. The projects increase in complexity as she builds on the techniques she's explaining.My only slight complaint about the book is that it is hardbound, so I think that makes it more difficult to make copies of the numerous patterns the book contains.I would highly recommend this book to someone who is thinking about getting into pyrography or is a beginner level artist. For anyone who is at an intermediate level or higher I don't think the book would offer new concepts or ideas, but might be worth it for the many patterns.
I have collected several of the author's other books and am very pleased with them. This one, not as much. It is a small book (6"x7")and therefore the printing inside is quite small also, at least for my eyes. I did not care for the projects in the end; however, as usual, I did learn something new. I will continue to check out her future books.
